Niagara Photography - Downtown Welland

Went wandering around downtown Welland a couple days after Christmas. While a sort of historic place, it's sort of run down now. The city is in the process of making a bunch of improvements to try to get people to visit. Processed these ones sort of old-timey, but the cars give away the time period. I'll likely be doing some more wandering around the area for a project I have in mind.

did you buy the book of welland history that was published last year? although mr. krall's books on welland were interesting, this book is mainly a big collection of historical welland pictures and very little writing. it is amazing and so interesting!

Yes, the city centre has become run down since the closing of the old canal channel and the Seaway Mall. Unfortunately, I don't think much can be done about it; unless we can find a way to bring in the tourists, however, the #1 attraction (The canal downtown, when it was in use)is now more or less a "ghost canal" since the city council went against the wishes of the populace and banned motor craft!

Yes, it's a great book, sadly, some of the research was sketchy (Some of the pics are wrongly dated by as much as 20 years)....I do love the book, nonetheless! M. Jolin
